Former Vice President and 2019 Presidential Candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Professor Ibrahim Gambari on his appointment as the new Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.
In one of the rare tweets signed by Atiku Abubakar, he says “It is my hope and expectation and those of millions of Nigerians that you will deploy your varied skills garnered over the years in the service of our nation”.
Professor Gambari assumed office of Wednesday to replace the late Abba Kyari who died of Coronavirus on April 17, 2020 while receiving treatment in Lagos.
Atiku Abubakar had tweeted “Congratulations Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, CFR on your appointment as Chief of Staff to @MBuhari. It is my hope and expectation and those of millions of Nigerians that you will deploy your varied skills garnered over the years in the service of our nation. -AA”
The new Chief of Staff to the President who hails from Kwara State was Minister of External Affairs when President Buhari was military Head of State between 1983 and 1985. He thereafter served as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations between 1990 and 1999, effectively working with all the military heads of state that ruled the country after the overthrow of the Second Republic.
Besides, ad-hoc committee assignments, this is the first time the 65-year old Professor Gambari will be serving in a democratically elected government in Nigeria after holding several appointments with the United Nations and the African Union.
