Immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen has been found guilty of the six-count charge of false and non-declaration of assets after three months of trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
Though Justice Onnoghen had on April 5, 2019 tendered his retirement letter, the Tribunal has ordered for his removal from office as Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Justice Onnoghen is also barred from holding public office for a period of 10 years. He is also to forfeit all monies in the foreign currency bank accounts he has not declared on his assets declaration forms.
There are however strong indications that Justice Onnoghen will appeal the judgement against him at the appellant court.
