President Muhammadu Buhari on August 21, 2019 swore in his second term cabinet of 43 ministers.
One year after, the Presidency on the anniversary of the occasion has published a list of 35 achievements including projects, policies and programmes recorded by what can be described as the “Next Level” team of President Buhari who has also retweeted the record of the successes.
Meanwhile, a number of the ministers especially those who were appointed into the administration for the first time have taken to the social media to thank President Buhari for the opportunity to serve the country and also count their achievements in office.
Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola Rauf Aregbesola tweeted “#RaufAtInterior: 12 Achievements in 12 Months at the helms of affairs @MinOfInteriorNG”. The 12 projects he listed include “the New Visa Policy reclassifying the Visa Categories from 6 to 79” and the “Visa on Arrival to holders of Passports of African Countries”.
It was an elaborate anniversary ceremony for Sadiya Umar Farouk and her new Ministry which the Presidency counted its establishment as one of the 35 achievements in the last one year.
In her address at the programme hosted by the Ministry which the Minister tweeted on her personal Twitter handle, she says “Your excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, we are grateful to you for honouring us with your presence at this first anniversary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. So far for the one year we have been in existence, I would say it has been an eventful, challenging and rewarding journey #OneYearofServicetoHumanity”.
For Sunday Dare, “Today, August 21, marks the first anniversary of my appointment as the Minister of Youth and Sports Development by President M. Buhari. All praise to God Almighty for his favour and faithfulness. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our country and thanks to Mr. President”.
While there were no such emotional messages from almost all the two-time ministers, it appeared strange that some of the first time ministers especially the junior ministers were silent about the anniversary. Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo who was redeployed from Niger Delta Affairs in the early days of their inauguration falls under this category. There is also the Minister of State for Health, Senator Mamora and his Petroleum counterpart, Timipre Sylva who also did not say anything about the anniversary even though they are not very regular users of the social media.
One junior minister that is however all over the social media about the anniversary is Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu of the Federal Capital Territory Administration. In her tweet she says “As I clocked a year in office today as thhe FCT Minister of State, serving @OfficialFCTA and her people. I am using this medium to thank President Muhammadu Buhari @MBuhari very much indeed, for giving me such a great opportunity to serve my country. I thank my colleague, Mallam Muhammad Bello and the entire management, my aides, and staff of FCTA for their support, as I look forward to more fruitful working relationship in the coming years. Big thanks go to the Almighty Allah (SWT) for his guidance and help”.
