The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has officially handed over the National Strategic Food Reserves in Niger State to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development
This follows the approval by President Muhammadu Buhari that grains should be distributed to Nigerians as a palliative measure to cushion the hard effect of the Coronavirus lockdown.
The handing over ceremony took place in Minna, the Niger State capital between the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sabo Nanono and his Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development counterpart, Sadiya Nanono.
The President’s approval for the release of 70,000 metric tonnes of assorted grains was conveyed by the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19. About 6,000 tonnes of the grains are to be distributed in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, Lagos and Ogun States.
Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed has said 744,000 persons are to be engaged for the distribution exercise under the N500 billion Coronavirus Intervention Fund of the Federal Government.
