A “drunk” police inspector shown in a video that has gone viral has been identified and arrested for misconduct. The officer identified by his name tag as Garba Salisu had the gun he was carrying at the time he was drunk collected from him by passers-by to forestall any incident of accidental discharge.
In the video, Inspector Salisu who serves with the Federal Capital Territory Police Command is seen being poured sachet water on his head for relief by one of the passers-by at the scene. The unfortunate incident is coming at a time there is unprecedented national attention on the Nigerian Police Force following the nationwide #EndSARS protests.
Below is the statement issued by the FCT Command on the arrest of the officer:

Following the viral video of the “Drunk Policeman” at CBN Junction, the FCT Police Command has identified, arrested and taken into custody the Police Inspector shown in the video.
- Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police CP. Bala Ciroma has ordered that the Police officer be subjected to psychological and medical evaluation, preparatory to the commencement of disciplinary actions against him.
- In view of the above, the Commissioner of Police wishes to unequivocally state that the behaviour portrayed by the Policeman in the video does not depict the standard discipline of the Nigeria Police Force.
- While urging residents to remain calm, the Command wishes to reiterate its unflinching commitment to the protection of lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory.
