In an early morning tweet, President Muhammadu Buhari sharing family pictures of himself, the First Lady and their children says “Today, on our 30th Wedding Anniversary, I pray for Allah’s continued peace and blessings in our home and family”
President Buhari married his wife Aisha in 1989, four years after he was overthrown as the country’s military Head of State.
The First Lady has also taken to the social media with a 58 second video of family photos with the message “Alhamdulillah for 30yrs of togetherness. #30yearsweddinganniversary
# ThanksbetoALLAH ”
There have been social media focus on the marriage of the country’s first couple in the last few months. To many observers the President’s tweet puts an end to the rumours as he never personally commented on the allegations while the situation lasted.
It would be recalled that President Buhari’s first wife, Safinatu died at the Chasel Hospital Unguwar Sarki in Kaduna State on January 14, 2006 from reported complications of diabetes. She was buried at the Unguwar Rimi cemetery in accordance with Islamic rites.
Though President Buhari got married to 18-year old Safinatu Mani in December 1971 after four years of courtship the two got divorced in 1988. They had five children including four daughters and a son, namely Zulaihat who was named after Buhari’s mother, Fatima, Musa, Hadiza, and Safinatu. Two of their children Zulaihat and Musa are deceased.
Born on December 11, 1952, in Jos the Plateau State Capital, Safinatu was educated at the Teachers Training College in her home state of Katsina, graduating in 1971 when he married President Buhari.
The late Safinatu’s father, Yusuf Mani was worked in Lagos as secretary to Musa Yar’Adua who was the Minister of Lagos Affairs in the first Republic when Lagos Island and the capital territory was designated as the city of Lagos in 1963.
Meanwhile, President Buhari’s marriage to the country’s First Lady Aisha kn December 2,1989 also produced five children, a boy and five girls namely Aisha, Halima, Yusuf, Zahra and Amina. The First Lady is a cosmetologist, beauty therapist and author.
Born on February 17, 1971 in her home state of Adamawa, Aisha Buhari is the grand daughter of Nigeria’s first Minister of Defence Muhammadu Ribadu .
