Barely two weeks after the killing of a young football fan with dreadlocks, 36-year old Kolade Johnson in Lagos State, South-West Nigeria, another young person, this time, a female, 20-year old Ada Ifeanyi has been shot and killed by a team of policemen.
Another 32-year old Emmanuel Akomafuwa who was also shot in the incident which occurred on Saturday at Akpiri Street, Olodi Apapa is receiving treatment at the hospital.
The police have already offered to foot the medical bills of the injured victim.
A statement on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, DSP Bala Elkana says five police officers attached to the Trinity Police Station have been arrested in respect of the deadly shooting and their rifles retrieved for forensic examination. Those arrested whose group picture has been released by the police are Inspector Adamu Usman and four sergeants namely Adeyeye Adeoye, Kashim Tijani, Lucky Akigbe and Paul Adeoye.
The Command has also declared one Inspector Dania Ojo whose lone picture has also been released wanted in connection with the crime. He is said to have escaped and absconded immediately after the shooting incident. The State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu who ordered the immediate arrest and Orderly Room Trial of the suspects at the Command Headquarters Ikeja has vowed that the perpetrators must be punished.
It will be recalled that in the last one month alone, the Lagos State Police Command has dismissed four policemen for abuse of power and conducts unbecoming of police officers and awarded various degree of punishments to 41 others. The four dismissed policemen including Inspector Ogunyemi Olaleka who allegedly killed Kolade Johnson were subsequently charged to court and remanded in prison custody.
