The Nigerian Government congratulates Anthony Joshua for beating Andy Ruiz in the world heavyweight boxing rematch to reclaim the world title.
In a tweet shortly after the highly anticipated rematch, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) says “Anthony Joshua beats Andy Ruiz in world heavyweight boxing rematch.
Congratulations Anthony Joshua.
Born in Watford, Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom on October 15, 1989, Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua is a British professional boxer. His mother is a Nigerian just like his father who however has Irish ancestry.
Joshua reportedly spent some of his early years in Nigeria where he was a boarding student at the Mayflower School Ikenne in Ogun State. He returned to the UK at the age of 12 and started boxing in 2007 at 18 years.
The 2012 Olympic champion became the unified heavyweight champion in 2016 but lost the title in June 2019. With his win of the rematch against Mexican-American Andy Ruiz, Joshua joins the league of men including Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson and Floyd Patterson to reclaim the world heavyweight title.
