PLATEAU COMMUNITY CELEBRATES ONE OF NIGERIA’S OLDEST POLITICIANS

Mammoth crowd turns up to celebrate the life of one of Nigeria’s oldest surviving politicians, Pa Nangil Nden who was the first councilor to represent Pilgani Council Ward at the local government level in Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria.

Born in 1928, Pa Nden who clocked 90 years in December 2019 was 49 years old when he was elected councilor on non-party basis from 1977 to 1979 during the transition to the Second Republic.

A special thanksgiving church service was held in his honour at the Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN) Pil-Gani after which guests led by Nigeria’s former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep (Rtd) were treated to a civic reception.

Other dignitaries who came to honour Pa Nden from all walks of life were the Chairmen of Langtang North and Langtang South Local Government Areas of Plateau State along with past council chairmen.

Traditional rulers also graced the occasion with the Emir of Kanam, His Royal Highness Mohammed Babangida in his remarks eulogising Pa Nden and praying for him to see many more years of fruitfulness and service to his community and mankind.

The Ponzhi Gani, Colonel Dauda Nimyel (Rtd) who led members of the Gani Traditional Council presented certificate of appointment and turbaned Pa Nangil Nden as the Talba Gani.

Speaking on behalf of the Nden family, the eldest son of the celebrant, Dr. Nanzing Ndeh who is a financial reporting expert and Director-General of the Federal Capital Territory Area Councils Pensions Board thanked the Ponzhi Gani and Traditional Council for finding their father worthy of the appointment and traditional title of Talba Gani.
