At least 22 motorists have already been arraigned before mobile courts and seven vehicles were confiscated by the Lagos State Police Command in different parts of the city, mostly for driving against traffic.
The operation which started on Friday is in collaboration with the Lagos State Judiciary and the State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice who approved the constitution of mobile courts.
The State Police Command has deployed 200 special police motorcycles for traffic control and patrols to ensure free flow of traffic and also combat traffic related crimes such as traffic robbery.
The Command spokesperson, DSP Bala Elkana says the enforcement team is guided by the mantra “Traffic must flow” and the operation “will be sustained all through the festive periods and beyond”.
It would be recalled that on assumption of office on November 18, the new State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu declared a state of emergency on traffic and deployed additional 1,000 officers and men for traffic control. CP Odumosu once commanded the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos State and is currently a member of the Presidential Task Force on De-congestion of Roads around the Apapa Port.
Meanwhile, a muder suspect Amos Ekuma has voluntarily submitted himself to the police in Ikorodu. He is alleged to have pushed to a fall one dry cleaner popularly called Actor who attacked him with iron rod in his shop. The deceased was rushed to the Ikorodu General Hospital for treatment but could not survive.
The incident happened on Friday at about 7pm along Sabo Road by Kokoro Abu in Ikorodu. Reports say an argument had ensued between them earlier in the day and was resolved by neighbours only for the deceased to return in the evening to continue with the fight.
The Lagos Police Command has also confirmed the arrest of three notorious cultists for the alleged murder of
30-year old Enoch Obaro on December 3, 2019. His decomposing body has been recovered at an isolated bushy area at Fadayin Junction Imota in Ikorodu.
A private security guard by name Liasu Raji attached to the Luri Filling Station at the Toll Gate along Badagry Expressway is also in the custody of the Command. He was arrested with one English Pump Action Gun and one single barrel riffle with ten rounds of live cartridges.
Three other suspects have been arrested for an incident of armed robbery on December 9 at Road A, House 1, Green Heaven Estate Alatise Town, Ibeju Lekki. One of the suspect was arrested at the scene of the incident by neighbours who were attracted by the alarm raised by the victim when the three armed robbers invaded his house and locked his family inside a room.
